Stephen H. Snead
Steve is an experienced civil litigator in the areas of personal injury defense, insurance defense, large property damage cases, and professional liability cases for real estate professionals, lawyers, architects and engineers, and healthcare professionals. He has defended local, regional and national businesses, trucking and transportation companies, other entities, and individuals in high-exposure cases involving serious and catastrophic injury claims.
Steve has successfully defended motor vehicle injury litigation, product liability cases, commercial and business disputes, and premises liability cases. He has handled other catastrophic injury claims and lawsuits involving brain injury, including closed head injury, complex regional pain syndrome, paraplegia and quadriplegia, and burn injury cases.
He routinely uses expert witnesses in various specialties including physicians and other medical experts, life care planners, meteorologists, architects, real estate professionals, lawyers, accident reconstruction experts, human factors experts, and valuation experts.
Steve also serves as a mediator for all types of civil litigation matters, is trained as a civil litigation mediator under Missouri Supreme Court Rule 17 and is on the panel of neutrals for the Mediation and Assessment Program of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Before attending law school at the University of Missouri-Columbia, Steve earned a degree in Accounting from Missouri State University.
Steve also resolved by way of settlement a catastrophic brain injury case involving a car, a rollback wrecker, and his client, a commercial trucking company. Steve routinely handles the defense of catastrophic injury cases, and recently settled a case involving two intracranial hemorrhages with past medical expenses of nearly $1 million and a life care plan of $3.2 million. The settlement was accomplished before litigation was filed.
Steve also recently obtained an order of dismissal for an out of state contractor client on the basis of lack of personal jurisdiction by a Missouri court over his client in a personal injury action with significant injuries alleged including complex regional pain syndrome. Steve recently obtained orders of dismissal with prejudice for contractor clients in two separate cases under the “acceptance doctrine,” in personal injury cases involving slip and fall injuries. These were early and completely favorable rulings with very minimal legal expense incurred.
